Born and raised in The Bronx, NY, Kayla is a multi-disciplinary vocalist of Puerto Rican descent who is know for her passion & presence in the worlds of opera, jazz, and beyond.
Most recently she made her Carnegie Hall debut with the New York City Opera Chorus for the North American premiere of Vessels of Light by Lera Auerbach as well as her role debut as Hansel in Hansel & Gretel in the European premiere of Andrea DelGiudice's modern production set in Las Vegas. This summer she will join Central City Opera as an Apprentice Artist for their 2024 Festival.
Kayla has been a member of the BronX BandA, a 12 piece Latin Jazz ensemble led by Grammy-winning artist Arturo O'Farrill in partnership with Casita Maria Center for Arts & Education in the Bronx, since 2020. The BandA released their debut album, Amor y Resiliencia, in 2021 in the midst of presenting virtual and outdoor concerts for the community during the pandemic. They have since collaborated with the New York Philharmonic for several concerts, including at Lincoln Center for Summer for the City in 2022, and can regularly be seen at Casita Maria's annual South Bronx Culture Festival.
An active member of the NYC music community, Kayla has also been heard at local venues throughout the city such as The Shrine, Silvana, & DROM jazz club.
When not performing, Kayla practices yoga, enjoys studying and writing new music, and serves creative businesses as a digital marketing strategist using her expertise in relationship building and non-profit partnerships.
